Card Group

From Elisha Johnston,

Hi everyone!

I would like to start a once a month card making group. I am curious
who would like to be a part of it. I need about 8-10 ladies. The cost
would be $17.00. Of course you wouldn’t leave empty handed. I am a
Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and with the cost you would receive Every
Month a stamp pad, marker, and 6 sheets of paper, and a craft night
where we would make two cards/projects.

It would most likely be on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 7:00
p.m. at my house. We would start in January. I would really like to
get to know more of you. And what better way than to sit and craft?
Let me know if you would like to do it. It’s going to be FUN!

Opportunity to Serve

From Laura Padro:
Ruth Maynes and her husband are serving an inner-city mission downtown. They are working with refugee families. They come in from many countries and come with virtually nothing.
The agency that brings them in and helps get them started has a restricted budget. (Due to the recession it's extremely limited.) Ruth says these people need everything clothing, household goods, bedding, etc. She says even though a family may have six members, they ares sometimes given only two knives, forks and spoons.

If you have clothing, dishes, bedding, towels, etc (books, games, toys as well) that you are not using and can donate, please drop them off to Ruth or call her. Any help is appreciated. Also, gift certificates are helpful. During the last holiday season someone gave Ruth gift certificates to Smiths, Target and Old Navy. Ruth says even $5 gift certificates are truly a blessing to these families. She said families are coming in from Sudan. They are not used to the cold temperature so warm clothing/bedding is needed. Please look in your closets, cupboards and drawers and share what you don't want or need.

E-mail sisterchicks14@gmail.com for Ruth's Address and phone number

From Mary Lampros:

Hi ladies, my sister is flying into town from Florida for our brother's wedding this week, and she's bringing her baby. It would save her 50 bucks if she didn't have to check his car seat. Is there anyone who has an infant car seat (rear facing) you're not using that we could borrow for a few days? I could pick it up from you on Wednesday and have it back to you by the next Monday.

Also, I'm looking to sell a black desk for $40. If you're interested, come on over and look at it! It's in great condition, was only used for a year or so.

Thanks!

Halloween Craft Night this Tuesday!

Halloween Craft Night is Tuesday October 5th at my house. When do you think we should start? 7 or 8? I can do either. Let me know what you prefer. Also PLEASE let me know by Sunday if you are planning on coming. I need to know how much paint and vinyl and other supplies I need to get. Bring a treat to share if you want.

The crafts have been decided. The lovely Elisha Johnson is going to let us borrow her cricut so we can make these:

Here is how it is going to work:
You can either bring your own wood and Halloween paper and 2 dollars (for the other supplies) or just bring 5 dollars and we have the wood, paper and other supplies you need. You will be able to cut out whatever words you want. I think a "Trick or Treat" block would be cute.

We are also going to do Silhouettes from Martha Stewart. All you need to bring is black card stock or construction paper or 2 dollars. I will have these templates.
Black Cats:
Mice:

Raven:
Won't they look cute taped on your base boards?

You can also paint some eyeballs. I don't have a picture but if you want to do them all you need to get is some Styrofoam balls from Hobby Lobby. They HAVE to be the smooth kind or it won't work. You can get any size you want. They are a lot cooler the bigger they are but 2 large ones are over 5 bucks. So be sure to print the 40% off coupon online.

If you need directions or have questions please email me at sisterchicks14@gmail.com
Happy Haunting!

Your Discards Can Give Hope to a Little Boy

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good morning Sisters!

I know it's really late to ask, but I need your help in getting the word out. I have a sweet little nephew, Jackson, who has struggled with autism but has been blessed with incredible parents who would do anything for him. Since he was diagnosed about six years ago they have sacrificed everything to get him the proper therapies and treatments to pull him out of the autism trap. He has excelled and now has the unique opportunity to go to a special charter school where his parents hope that he'll continue to improve. My brother-in-law has been out of work for the last seven months and they have just barely been making it. They are so excited for Jackson, but are now scrambling to find money so they can afford the uniforms, transportation and fees for him to attend. They are having a yard sale tomorrow (9-18-10) and are looking for donations from family and friends, as well as advertisement for their yard sale. We will be donating some things and I thought I'd ask if there was anyone in the ward that had anything they were looking to get rid of. We'd be happy to take it off their hands! We will be taking stuff down to them tonight and possibly early tomorrow morning. They can drop items off at my house or contact me and I'd be happy to pick them up. My address is 4298 Degray Dr. and my number is 801-706-4778. Also, if anyone would like to go to the yard sale it will be held at 1684 North 280 West, Orem. Adam and Annie are the sweetest people and appreciate every little miracle. This could be just one more miracle for them. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Festival of Trees need help!!

Dear Sisters
I am writing on behalf of my mother who has a hard time asking for help. She has been a member of the festival of trees board for 5 years now and this year she has lost most of her committee members do to them having other commitments or new baby's and not having time. What she needs is committee members a full committee is 10 we are sitting at 3 being on the committee you need to be able to donate or gather 10 items for the gift boutique, you do not have to make others can make for you or if you want to buy, these can be hand-made cards, quilts, I-spy pillows (these fly of the shelf's), play things for children, crafts, this year my mom is thinking about making little girl Tutu's, you need to be able to host/hostess 2-3 shifts the more people we have the less time you have to spend hosting the last two years we have worked in kiddie land, There is also a committee gift we normally tie a quilt as a group but, if any one has any other ideas we are open to change, and pre-sale tickets these are discounted tickets for you to sale to your family and friends, and last but not least for the small fry they give out assignments to each committee of some thing to make this year we got gingerbread boy finger puppets which my son and me are willing to put together as these are time consuming to do. Committing to the committee is time consuming but, has great rewards you get to go on bid night for the official lighting of the trees, you can help deliver trees the Sunday after the festival and watch people as they receive there trees and yes you get to help put it up (some of these people don't even know the tree is coming). If you have the time and want to jump in and help please let us know by emailing me or calling. If you don't have the time but would love to help you can work one shift maybe or have something you want to donate for the boutique or even if you just want some of those discount tickets anything please email me. We are also looking for donations for the finger puppets we need brown felt small white Ric Rac, small wiggle eyes, and small white pom-poms. Email address is tiggernlsn@gmail.com thank you ahead of time from me and my mom Sherri Nelson.

What's Cooking at Daybreak

WHATS COOKING IN DAYBREAK SATURDAY JUNE 26TH 11-2PM
This weekend is Daybreaks biggest event of the year! Come to the new Brookside Model Homes in North Shore for free cooking demonstrations. There will also be food vendors from local restaurants in the street. There will also be live music at a concert on the beach and cookie decorating for kids. Do you know a resident who can BBQ, cook or bake better than the rest? Is that person you? Daybreak is looking for people to teach classes in the new model home kitchens in the Daybreak Cooking Series June 29th-July 2nd.

She works and her husband is trying to get his dissertation done so she could use some help. Does anyone know of anyone who might be able to do it?? You can leave a comment or email her at: jenniferdonaldsonwood@gmail.com

Also, this is probably a good time to ask for everyone to know. Who are the good babysitters around?? Anyone's daughter, granddaughter or neighbor interested in babysitting??

Thanks,
Cami

Playgroup Friday 6/18

From Mary Lampros:

Hi there everyone,
Looks like this crazy weather should clear up by Friday and be nice and warmish again. Why don't we do a retry on Wheeler Farm? If anyone feels passionately about the time (I'd love to accommodate those who have kindergartners if it's at all possible), let me know...otherwise, let's meet at 10:30 by the geese. I don't remember the address offhand so just Google Wheeler Farm for directions. Should be free and you can do a tractor ride for money if you wish. Bring a lunch if you want, and maybe bread for the geese! Hope to see you there!

Hey everybody, something has come up, and I apologize that I won't be able to make it to Wheeler Farm tomorrow. I could meet anyone who wants to at the park on Navarro and DeGray tomorrow at 10. If you were planning on going to Wheeler Farm, please still go...I'm sure y'all will have fun. Sorry about the last minute change.

Girls Scouts in Daybreak

From Kristin Brandt:
For those of you who might be interested in Girl Scouts for your daughter(s), there is going to be a parents informational/registration meeting next Wed. the 16th from 6:30 to 7:30 at the DCC. If you have any interest at all, come and ask all your questions. Girl scouts is a great program! No uniforms are required, cookie selling is optional (although you can ask Karin about the year that she sold enough cookies for a trip to Disneyland), and it's very low cost because it's volunteer run. Girls of all ages beginning with Kindergartners can join. AND, Karin Brooks and I are willing to serve as leaders in our neighborhood. We are so excited to get this going in our neighborhood! It would help me if anyone interested would also email me at jeffandkrisbrandt@hotmail.com so that I can tell the Girl Scout rep. how much interest we have in our part of the neighborhood. Thanks!

Be healthy!!

From Kira Cook:

Positive attitudes like Jessica:

Vitamins in foods
http://www.healthalternatives2000.com/vitamins-nutrition-chart.html

Preservatives to try to avoid: you can google these and find out what
harm they really have
Sulfur is used to keep dried fruit fresh
Formaldehyde to disinfect frozen vegetables. The formaldehyde allows
the vegetables to retain their bright colors.
Arsenic (that is the chemical name) has been found in frozen chicken
and in the feed of most non- organic chickens.
Carboxymethylcellulose is found in some ice creams to stabilize shelf
life and thicken the product.
Phenylalanine found in pretty much ALL chewing gum.

Find out where you really stand:
http://www.mypyramidtracker.gov/
1. Go to assess your food intake
2. Fill out a profile (4 minutes of your time)
3. Enter in the general food items that you ate that day. Be as
specific as you can with the choices they give you.
4. After completing the list of the foods you ate that day, go to
select quantity
5. Then hit save and analyze
6. See your "DG comparison" (you'll get happy or sad faces here)
7. Then go back and look for "calculate nutrition intakes from food"
(they'll tell you where you are too high or too low concerning what
you are eating)

The Bachelorette

I'll admit, it's kinda a guilty pleasure of mine. If you find yourself watching to tonight alone (my husband won't watch it with me), or any other Monday come on over to my house. (Light blue, facing the pool)

Me and some other girls start watching it at 9, so we can put the kids to bed first and then fast forward through the commercials. Come over and enjoy some yummy junk food and hilarious commentary.

Matilda Jane Trunk Show

From Kristin Brandt:

I am hosting a Matilda Jane trunk show at my house on Tuesday, June 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Matilda Jane is mostly little girl clothes sized from 12 months to 12 years, although they now have some items for moms as well now. These clothes are so super cute. I can't say enough about them. I think they are cuter than most of the stuff I see on Etsy and in boutiques. Love, love, love these clothes. Girly, fun and comfortable. Check out this link to some pictures taken by Utah photographer Skye Johansen using Matilda Jane clothes: http://www.skyejohansen.com/?p=3297. There is also a Matilda Jane website (www.matildajaneclothing.com ), where I got the following photos.

At this time the Matilda Jane clothes can only be bought through a trunk show, so this is the perfect time to come and see the clothes in person and find out if they are something you are interested in OR you can just come and hang out with friends and have some refreshments. :) Everyone is invited. In fact, if you have friends or family that would be interested in these clothes, please invite them! I'm trying to spread the word. No pressure. I'm only having the party so that I can see the clothes myself. :)

Play Group this Friday

For playgroup this week we have an appointment at the fun Gale Center in South Jordan on Friday (23rd) at 10:30. It's a place where kids can learn about the history of our town, and there are displays such as an old-fashioned schoolhouse, grocery store, farmhouse, etc. Let me just warn you that sometimes the people who work there can be pretty, uh...not-so-understanding-of-kids'-desires-to-touch-everything, so just keep close to your kids and follow the rules and we'll be fine. I promise it's worth the effort. Let's try to be on time (hard, I know!) since they'll start the "tour" at 10:30 and we have an hour. I hope I haven't scared you off. Please come, your kids will love it!

Looking ahead: We're thinking every other week for playgroup so that we have good attendance, and one local, one field trip a month. At our little planning meeting we also thought it would be nice to just have a backup in place beforehand for the outdoor venues so that if the weather doesn't cooperate, you'll know where to go.

If you are not receiving emails directly from me and would like to get the updates about playgroup, please send me your email address: maryelampros@gmail.com.

DIRECTIONS TO THE GALE CENTER: Take 10400 S. heading east. Just past Redwood Road, turn left at the NEXT light (1540 W., 1575 W., Beckstead Lane--not sure which of these appear on the street sign). It's the same street that in the opposite direction would take you to the library. Anyway, head down a block and the road empties into the Gale Center parking lot, 10300 S. Beckstead Lane.

Daybreak Resident Bake Sale

I am the new Connecting Committee Chair for Daybreak. We are having a bake sale at The Garden Affair. It is on Saturday April 24th from 8am to Noon at the Daybreak Community Center. This is going to be such a cool event. I will post more about it later.

I need help! If anyone can donate some homemade baked goods (ya know, cookies, brownies, muffins, etc.) please let me know. You can email me at cami.johnston@gmail.com, or sisterchick14@gmail.com, or leave a comment. All money made will be donated to our sister city in Africa.

If you know anyone else in Daybreak who might be able to help, please give them my email address (or theirs to mine, whichever). I haven't lived here too long so I pretty much only know people in our ward. So please help me spread the word.

We also need volunteers for that day to help sell the baked goods that day!

CONGRATS COOK FAMILY!

Danielle Brems

I just wanted to post the e-mail I just got from Danielle-

Hi Cami,
Thanks for checking up on us. We have had a long, crazy week and by the end of it, the adoption did not go through. Lots of issues were coming up with the birth mother and she was having a hard time making the decision in the end. We never thought it work out this way as we have all been set on this adoption for 5 months! However, when everything was said and done, my husband and I knew that having an open adoption with this couple could never work out and be healthy for all five of us so that feeling has been carrying us through all the other hard stuff. If you wanted to you could announce that our birth mother decided to parent and ask everyone to refer us when they hear of a crisis pregnancy. Our adoption blog is www.chrisanddaniadopt.com

Card Group Details!

From Elisha Johnson

I have decided to become a Stampin’ Up demonstrator. NOT to make money
by any means but, to get new ideas and products and techniques for
card making. SOOO in order to keep my account open I will need each
card group participant to purchase $10.00 a month in product or $30.00
every three months. Whichever! This will help not only me grow my
products but you as well! I will need a commitment of 12 months. I
will showcase something new each month for card group to give you
ideas and INSPIRE! Also because I will have 3-5 projects each month I
am asking for reimbursement. Bring $2.00 with you each month. That
will cover the cost of supplies for me. That way I am not out any
money but enjoying the group along with you.

Because this is a card swap group you must also bring X amount of (the
same) cards which you have made to group each month. (You will leave
with the same amount). I will be making them as well but I will not be
in on the prize. A prize will be awarded for the best card. Voted on
by you! I will give you the theme of your card to make each month
i.e.: birthday, get well, congrats, etc. That way we all leave with
different cards for different occasions.

If you do not want to do the card swap and just the group let me know.
I would still love to have you come.

We will also have a door prize. You will enter your name in a drawing
when you come in and we will draw to see who gets the most awesome
prize of the day!

Because us ladies like to have treats at our gatherings feel free to
bring a treat to share.

I really hope that this will be a great experience for all of us and
we can all become inspired and have FUN!!! Time away from family to
just hang out as girls should be a blast!

I need to hear from you by April 9th so I can add you to the schedule.

I want to know FOR SURE whether or not you will be here and if you are
bringing someone with you. I need to add your names to the schedule.
The dates are....

Pasta Salad and more!

Thank you to everyone who came to the Baby Shower last Saturday. It was a huge success!
It was so great to be together and get to know each other better.

Some things I learned: If you are 8 1/2 months pregnant you are likely to spill red punch on carpet. And if you do, you should spray the stain with hair spray then rub it with a wet bar of soap. Then just wipe it up!! (Thanks for that tip Joyce!)

The best soap to use for stains on clothing is Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar Soap (Thanks Debbye for that tip. She said you can pick it up at Smiths)

Also, A little competition makes for a lot of laughter.

Last but not least, as women we have a great ability to provide each other with the support system we need! You all ROCK!

Here is the recipe for the Pasta Salad:
Mix together:
1 pound cooked crumbled bacon
chopped green onions (however much you like)
8oz. shredded swiss cheese
1 package cooked pasta (I use bow tie or fussilli)
Dressing:
1 1/2 cup mayo or miracle whip
1/2 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons red wine vinegar
Combine all ingredients and enjoy!

Girl's Night Out

From Laura Walker:

Let's do a Girl's Night Out!
We are trying to shoot for the first Friday night of each month. In April, however, we will be going for the second Friday (April 9th) since the first Friday is on Easter/Conference weekend. Mark it on your calendar if you want to join us!
Take a second to vote on what you want to do for the activity.
Also- there has been some interest expressed in the upcoming Twilight movie (!). We may just have to hit that in June! More details to follow!

Get your punch pass for Utah's largest Easter Egg hunt! Event takes place rain or shine (or snow). Festive Easter eggs are scattered throughout Electric Park, but that’s not all there is to do.
