Daybreak Giving Tree

Help make a childs Christmas wishes come true by choosing ornaments from Daybreak giving tree located in the DCC lobby. Each ornaments lists a specific item needed by local children in the Salt Lake area who might not otherwise have a visit from Santa this year. Purchase the item and return the unwrapped gift to the DCC with the ornament attached by December 2nd at noon. The giving tree benefits the Christmas Box House in Salt Lake City.

Nursery snacks

The Nursery is in need of snack donations. If you have a child in the
nursery or if you would like to help please bring your donation to
church on Sunday. You can just drop it off in any of the nursery
rooms. Crackers, goldfish, fruit snacks . . . nothing with nuts, are
great! Thank you so much for your help, we love your kids!

Muscles Needed Monday Morning October 17th at 9 a.m.

I am moving my little mama from her assisted living center to her nursing home on Monday the 17th and need one man with muscle to help Brett move a few things - a dresser, loveseat, recliner chair, small table and bed.

If you have a man I could borrow or a big son that would be awesome!!!! If you do but Monday is a problem, we could move some of the things Sunday night.

Thanks for you Help!!! I'm great at supervising but not so great at lifting!

Babysitting Coop

Would you like to be able to volunteer at the school, go grocery shopping, or maybe even get an uninterrupted shower??

The answer is our great neighborhood babysitting co-op! It's a playdate for your kids and a break for you. All you need to do is cover one or two shifts a month and in return you have someone to help you out when a doctor's appointment comes up or when you need to do some Christmas shopping. The best part is that you don't have to feel guilty because it's an exchange and we are all helping each other out. I can't rave enough about it.

We are kick starting a new season of co-op with a meeting next Wednesday night, September 7th. We will be going over a few basic rules, planning a schedule, and getting to know one another better. Everyone now in the co-op or anyone interested in joining should plan on attending.

If you have any questions at all about co-op and how it works or if you are interested and need more info on our upcoming meeting, please contact Kristin Brandt by phone (801-253-4812) or email (jeffandkrisbrandt@hotmail.com
).

Thank you!

Exercise Classes at the Stake Center at 9 a.m. daily

Leslie Reader is heading up a fun way to stay in shape every day at 9 a.m. with great exercise classes at our Church gym. She is going to teach a dance/aerobics class. She is looking for YOU - you know who you are - to share in the teaching. If you have a desire to lead a class in Pilates, Yoga, Strength Training, aerobics, or any other form of exercise, please contact her. She is worried we'd get tired of her teaching all 5 classes a week (we wouldn't, of course, but we can help her out!!)
This is a great way to get your body back after your baby's birth, even if it was 5 years ago!!!!! I think we can't blame it on baby weight after they start kindergarten!!!! My baby is now 24 and I'm really out of excuses!

Food Storage Tips from Debbye Cannon

I am looking to buy a 23 Qt. pressure canner and wide mouth jars/lids.
If you (or someone you know) have these please give me a call.

I have just learned about two good grocery ad services you might want
to check out:
dealstomeals.com ($4.95 month) This site helps you spot the HOTTEST
deals in a hurry!
You can even print a list of the items YOU want and take it to
Wal-Mart for one stop shopping (price matching).
Store brands are matched with store brands (Western Family/Great Value, etc.)

pinchingyourpennies.com (FREE)

I found out about these from the gals teaching at Honeyville Farms
classes. Just one tip about a special on
2# blocks of cheese saved me $40! FYI you can keep unopened vacuum
sealed blocks of cheese (Tillimock)
on the shelf in your cold storage room for SIX MONTHS! I got enough
to last awhile!

Laura Hickman told me about chicken special at Peterson's this week
(thru June 29th).
I'm having so much fun creating my FOOD STORE (used and rotated food
rather than STORAGE).

If you are interested in becoming more self reliant let me know. I'd
love to add you to my special interest email list.

Baby Girl Bedding

From Karen Brooks
I was at Target the other night and found this darling baby girl crib bedding. I just couldn't pass up a good deal. I of course am not having a baby, but I bought it thinking someone might want it. It was on clearance at Target but is twice as much online. (It is online only, but someone had returned it.) I got the bumper pad for $28 (online price: $49.49) and the crib skirt for $9 (online price: 28.79). Here is the link. If anyone is interested, I will of course give it to them for what it cost me. If there are no takers, I will return it. They also had the crib quilt for another $27 but I didn't buy that. Who uses a quilt anyway?

Good News from the Reader Family!!!!

I am so happy to report that MacKinley will not need surgery afterall. The surgeon suspected as much and he ordered a CT skan of his head and the plates were not fused together! I need to watch it to see if it gets worse, but he said most of the time the fusing happens at birth. So I need to prop his head up to flatten it a bit in the back---and that's all! No helmet! We are SO happy.

Also the lab was sucessful at getting a blood draw to check his white blood cell count. (It may be low because he may have a problem with his immune system.). I will let you know the results.
Now we are going to go party, cry a little, and thank God. We love you all!

Play Group Time!!!!

I think summer may finally have arrived! I'm thinking we should start meeting at the park every week for playgroup now as long as the weather is good. Plan on every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the park on Degray and Navarro. If the weather is bad we will cancel, but otherwise let's get our playgroup on!! If you want to change the time, day, or place, send me an email at mindiebfield@hotmail.com. I am thinking it would be easiest to keep the day, time and place the same each week so that we can all just plan on it but if you would like me to change any of the details, I'm happy to. Hope to see you all on Wednesday!!!!

Hello again everyone!

If the weathermen are right, the weather is supposed to be pretty good this Wednesday so how about we meet for playgroup at the park on Navarro and Degray? I'm thinking 11:00 am is probably the best time since the later we wait in the day the warmer it should be. Hope to see you all there!

Tree Doctors Needed?

On Coralville way and Enid Drive we have some trees in the park strip that are in tough shape. We contacted a tree specialist and he is treating many of our trees. He does a deep root fertilization with organic materials. The cost is just $11 a tree or $32 for three trees. He suggests treatment twice a year for a few years to help the trees get a good start and remain healthy and strong. Many people do not realize that although the trees are in the park strip the homeowners are responsible to keep them alive and well. If the trees need to be replaced the homeowner is responsible for the cost of replacement. Kennecott Land and the Daybreak Association need to pass on this information concerning the trees to make sure home owners understand their responsibility. The cost of caring for the trees is much less expensive than the cost to replace trees.

If you are needing this type of service or are concerned with the health of your trees, please contact Corey Draper @ CoreyDraper@mac.com or text him at 801.599.8578. Feel free to call Laura Padro or Marci Rechtenbach with other questions.

Play Group Time

Hello again everyone!

I'm thinking maybe we can start doing playgroup at the park again since the weather is getting better (and hopefully this nice weather is here to stay!!!). How about this Friday at the park on Navarro and Degray? (Sorry for the late notice!) I'm thinking we could meet around 11:00 since the later we wait hopefully the warmer it will be. In the future I hope we can pick a day that works for most of you and meet at the same park, same time and day each week so that people can just plan on it. Let me know what day works best for you and if you would prefer meeting at a different park or at a different time. I think last summer we met on Wednesdays, but we could try Fridays if that is better for the majority (or any other day too!)

Also, if you want to invite someone new or let me know if there are people who haven't been included in this email who might be interested please let me know. The more the merrier! Hope to see you all on Friday!

What will YOU do when you can't get to a Doctor in an Emergency???

Emergency Preparedness is more than Food Storage and 72 hour kits. Emergencies come unexpectedly and bring health and injury concerns with them. When you can't get to a doctor or hospital and need medical help - what will YOU do?

Deborah Anne White is teaching a class this Thursday to answer some of those questions.

Emergency Preparedness
using Essential Oils

Thursday, May 19th
7 p.m.
4364 Degray Drive

(Avocado House next to 10889 on Topview)

Advantages of Essential Oils in Emergency Storage:
1. They never expire
2. They store indefinitely
3. They do the work of most OTC and prescription meds in an emergency
4. They are affordable and easy to use

childen in Ishinomaki

From Christel Fund

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook the other day and I thought
the women in our neighborhood might be interested in participating.
Would you mind posting this on the blog?

"If you've been eager to do something for the people of Japan, a
friend of a friend of mine, Nicole Schiffler, is heading up this very
simple project for the children of the devastated town of Ishinomaki:
one box filled with simple things (like school supplies, hygiene
products, and small toys) you probably have in abundance at home, sent
personally to the childen of a school in Ishinomaki. To learn more
about the project, visit
http://www.thesleepytimegal.com/for-the-children-of-ishinomaki-japan/
Email Nicole and she will send you the address of the school. It's
that simple. A simple project to send comfort and a little joy to the
Japanese children of one school in Ishinomaki."

Thank you!

Square Foot Gardening 101

From Kira Cook:
Square Foot Gardening 101
Being able to reach out of the window and touch your neighbor is great
for unity but horrible for any hopes of gardening. That's why
I'm going to be taking a class down at Thanksgiving Point on either
April 19th or May 10th to learn the simple system of Square foot
gardening. The class is $25 and it's from 6-8:30pm. The class includes
the background of SFG, advantages over other methods, explains how to
save 80% more in space, water and work. It also teaches location,
construction, perfect soils, planting seasons, vertical gardening,
3-season harvesting, and out of season gardening. If anyone is
interested taking the class with me. Let me know and I can sign us up
and we can all go together:)

From Jen Moore-
I am in need of help from my RS sistas! We had a few people drop out of the Ragnar team I'm captaining so I'm looking for 2 more runners. They need to be pretty good ones because we have two of the hardest legs left -- Runner positions 10 and 12 in Van 2. The race is June 17-18. It's $90 for the registration fee. Anyone who is interested, knows of someone who is interested, or has a spouse who would be interested, they can call me or email me. jmoore336@gmail.com or 801-602-9122.

More info can be found on the official website: http://www.ragnarrelay.com/about. It's a blast and we have a really great, fun group of people already so we just need 2 more to get 12 people total.

March Playgroup

From Mindie Butterfield:
Can you believe that it is finally starting to feel a little like spring?! Wouldn't it be great if this awesome weather would last! I'm thinking that we will still need to keep playgroup inside for a little while longer and when it's warm enough we can start meeting at the park again. Until then... how about we meet Friday March 11th @ 10:30 at the Mcdonalds near the district and we can let the kids play in the playland and Wednesday or Friday March 23rd or 25th at someone's home. Is anyone interested in hosting on either of those days? Hopefully we will get some nice weather in April, or if not for sure in May...can't wait!!!

THE TERKS!

From Leslie Readers Husband Adam:

My band, THE TERKS have been nominated for the 2011 eWorld Music Awards, which will be held on Grammy Weekend @ the legendary SIR Studios, in Hollywood. The award show was created by the people behind the Golden Globes and the Independent Spirit Awards. A panel of top recording artists, music producers and executives encompassing the full range of the music industry were assembled to select the most promising artists from thousands of submissions from all over the planet. The Terks were one of six artists nominated by the panel for best band. The winner of the remaining six will be chosen by the fan’s vote. Voting may only be accessed through our Boomerang Media Station™. Boomerang is a quick and free installation, and is available for both Internet Explorer and Firefox for PC's and Firefox only for Macs. Any votes not cast through the Boomerang will not count and fans may only vote once.

Is there any way you can help us GET THE WORD OUT TO VOTE? This would really help the local scene in UTAH because our competition is from LA, BOSTON, and NEW YORK. They are ALL on bigger indie labels with three of them already on the billboard charts. If a little band, with no label, from South Jordan, Utah could get enough people to vote we could really do something BIG! If we can get enough votes to finish in the top 3, then we will perform on the awards show in front of all of the major labels and executives. This is the opportunity of a lifetime. Can you please follow the instructions below and vote for us and forward this on to as many people as you can? It only takes about 4 minutes total. WE would really appreciate it.

Thanks

To straighten out a few things...

First off, I am typing with a fussy toddler in my arms. I am sure some of you have been there. Anyway...

There has been talk of a craft night on Wednesday this week. I was staring to get it ready and realized, I just have too much going on. If someone else wants to put it together let me know, send me an email and I will post all the info about it.

Also, Audrey Cazier had decided to join in on the baby celebration on Thursday! Yea!
This is a pic of her new baby boy Ayden with big brother Rylin (I hope I spelled his name right.) She will be coming by not bringing Ayden. He has been sick and she doesn't want him to get any worse. I hope to see you on Thursday!!

(Ok, now that I have changed a diaper, made a snack for Carter and sent him off to Piano and ate a chocolate bar myself, a few hours later this post is done!)
From Stacie Manning:
You're invited to a NORWEX Party!
Join us for some fun to learn all about
NORWEX ENVIRO PRODUCTS
Feb. 5th at 10:30am
Stacie Mannings House
10735 S. Navaroo

Have you ever heard of Norwex? I haven't either until recently. I was very surprised to learn that I could clean the kitchen, bathrooms, windows, and more without using chemicals-and even get better results. I was so excited by this concepts and the innovative products Norwex has to offer, that I want to host a party and share it with you!

Would you like to cut cleaning time by 75%?
Breathe easier by cleaning without chemicals?
Save money by cleaning with only H2O?

Help save the environment by eliminating waste!!! Make your home a safer place for you and your family!

Do any of you really want to go out with your husband more often but can't afford a babysitter every week? Um, yeah, me too. So, the solution is a date night babysitting swap. This is basically how it works. We will pair up in groups of four families based on number of kids and needs (we don't want the groups to be too big). You will babysit one Friday or Saturday night a month and you get to go out the other three weeks. It can be a fun movie night for the kids....AND you get to go out with your husband THREE weekends a month. :) There might also be a group doing only every other week if that's more appealing to you. Call me at 801-253-4812 or email jeffandkrisbrandt@hotmail.com if you are interested or if you have additional questions about how this is going to work. I will also consider suggestions. Let's get this going for February!

Neighborhood Co-op

Hello there ladies of the 14th ward and Daybreak neighborhood who have young children,
We've got a neighborhood babysitting co-op going on and would like to invite anyone interested to join! It's an awesome way to exchange babysitting services without spending money. If you're like me and don't have a mom who lives in town to help, (or even if you do...) imagine being able to grocery shop, go to appointments, take a bubble bath, get housecleaning done, exercise, or just relax for a couple of hours...without your kiddos!
Here's how it works. Anyone who joins gets six hours worth of tickets per child, and when you want to use your tickets, you call up whoever is on the schedule on the day you need and let them know when you'll be bringing your kids over. You "pay" one hour of tickets per child per hour, so if you dropped two kids off for 2 1/2 hours, you'd "pay" 5 hours of tickets. Then, when you are on the schedule (you choose your shift), you can earn back tickets by watching other people's kids. It's a great system, especially because your children see these outings as playdates.
We encourage you to sign up for two shifts per month, either morning (9-1) or afternoon (12-4).

I'm planning a meeting at my house this Thursday, Jan. 6th, at 8:30pm for everyone to come, ask questions, and set up the schedule for the next four months or so. Email me if you're interested (maryelampros@gmail.com) and I can answer any immediate questions you have.
Just so you know who's in it already, we have Kristin Brandt, Lahni Castellano, Mindie Butterfield, Karin Brooks, Cami Johnston, and myself, with Teresa Akagi and Sydnie Christensen interested in joining. Our goal is to have both shifts covered every day Monday-Friday. If enough people are interested in a date night co-op (Friday and Saturday nights), let me know and we could get that going as well.
Thanks and hope to hear from you!

~Mary Lampros
